Bowes Museum, Barnard Castle, County Durham
We have been invited to organise an antiques fair at The Bowes Museum again which of course is an opportunity that we have grasped with both hands as we have very fond memories of our successful fairs there some years ago. Sadly these stopped due to a change of administration at the museum, this has now altered again, hence our invitation to return.
The Bowes Museum is a stunning French –style chateau nestling in the hills of Teesdale in the historic market town of Barnard Castle. The museum contains the largest collection of French paintings in the country, with great works of art by Goya and Canaletto to name just a couple.
The fair will run in conjunction with an antiquarian book fair as well as a valuation service offered by David Harper, who is himself from Barnard Castle and a great supporter of The Bowes Museum. This will offer visitors a really special weekend at Bowes with something for everyone and should attract thousands of visitors. Obviously we will promote this fair extensively; this in conjunction with the separate promotion of the book fair and the museum and a personal invitation sent to 2000 Friends of Bowes Museum should ensure a busy fair for us all.
