Culford School, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk

Formerly the home of the Cadogan, Cornwallis and Bacon families, Culford Hall and its estate and
parkland were put up for sale by The Cadogan family in 1934. The Methodist Board of education
bought the 480 acre site for its East Anglian School for boys which was founded in Bury St
Edmunds in 1881. The school moved to Culford in 1935. In 1972 the East Anglian School for
girls joined Culford to make it the co-educational boarding and day school that it is today with
over 650 pupils. The Cadogan family still continue to retain links with the school; Viscount
Chelsea is a governor and Earl Cadogan recently visited the school to open its refurbished music
school.
Culford School lies just a few miles outside of Bury St Edmunds, offering an excellent catchment
area including, Norfolk, Suffolk and also the Newmarket, Cambridge and Peterborough areas.
